RULES – A FEW POINTERS A Guide (and reminder) of the most often misunderstood rules 1) In the Unmarked rounds (BH, 3D) and normal Marked Animal rounds the archer who has moved forward past a marker may not come back to shoot. This does not apply in the normal Field etc rounds. 2) Archers may not shoot from in front of a marker, or more than six inches behind or to either side of a marker (where there are 2 side-by-side markers). If there is only one marking peg, the archers must stay within three feet left or right of the marker. 3) A Group may not hold up the following group by looking for lost arrows. Enough arrows must be carried so that each archer can continue shooting and only return to find missing arrows after the competition. If the archer has no arrows left and the search is holding up the next group, the archer can’t continue. 4) Archers may not practice on any target used in a tournament (a practice range or practice targets must be provided). Further, an Archer may not use the Practice range during a tournament. 5) If for any reason a group is holding up another group, only by mutual arrangement between the Target Captains can the following group pass through. 6) Archers must shoot for the full duration of a tournament – shooting one arrow is not a sign of having competed in an event. Example: Colours rules specify an archer must compete in certain events. Scores made by an archer who does not complete the tournament will not be taken into consideration for any awards. 7) In the event of bad weather, the tournament shall continue, unless a signal (car horn / siren / Shouts and calls etc.) usually only for lightning or floods, is given by the Field Captain. Archers leaving the range before such a signal and archers who go back on the range without permission shall be withdrawn from the competition. 8) All the Targets and Butts must be shot in the order and sequence intended. Any targets omitted or shot out of sequence shall be forfeited. 9) Groups must not approach or interfere with other groups whilst either is shooting a target, but shall remain separate till all members of the group ahead have finished shooting. 10) Nobody may touch arrows in the target or butt until all the arrows have been scored. 11) Where an Arrows passed through the target face but remains in the butt, only the Target Captain or Vice-Captain who did not shoot the arrow may push it back, and score it accordingly. 12) If an arrow Skids or Bounces off the ground only (off trees, branches etc is ok) into the target it does not count for score. Further, if it Bounced-out (back towards the archer only) a new arrow can be shot. 13) A Shoot Through:- Where an Arrow Passed through a scoring area but did not stay in the butt (called a Shoot through), a. Another ‘marked’ arrow can be shot. b. Only arrows sticking in the butt score. If it is not possible or practical for the Field Captain to change, replace or repair such a butt the archer must keep shooting until the arrow stays in the butt (even if it means aiming for a lower scoring area) c. Arrows must be marked so that the order of shooting can be determined. 14) Where an archer shoots from the wrong marker or at the wrong target, he/she will loose the score of that arrow. The arrow may not be re-shot. 15) In the event of a pre-release or unintended shot, the archer may only shoot another arrow if the original arrow can be reached (touched) with the bow from the archer’s position at the marker. 16) The lines on a target or 3D butt are in the lower scoring area and arrows must cut the higher scoring area to score the higher value. |
