GAUTENG BOWHUNTER CHAMPIONSHIPS 2007 We have a very able team of organisers at the Westrand Archery Club in Gauteng. Leon and his team have secured a superb venue in the hills of Krugersdorp providing the perfect terrain for a tournament – typical highveld grassland and scrub between undulating rocky slopes. Archers of all ages could comfortably hike the terrain and still have plenty of breath left to execute good judgment and placement of their shots.Whilst walking around, I received many compliments about the range and the organisation of the tournament – Leon, I am proud of you all. The club had put up a huge marquee to muster in before the tournament as well as after,in which we could enjoy a plate of delicious curry and rice (included in the entry fee), as well as buy drinks from the bar. This encouraged archers and their families not to rush off home, but to linger and socialise and make new friends. This is the beauty of archery. In the past five months, many of our bowhunter friends have excelled and broken a number of records in their respective styles. I handed out their certificates and then continued with the prize-giving. Apart from winning medals, there were enough prizes handed out in the lucky draw for each archer to not go home empty handed – thanks again Westrand club. The good news is that these are the guys who will be organising the venue and the range for Nationals in December, so this promises to be a great event with record-breaking attendance.I hope to see you all there.
