MPUMALANGA FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2007
The Mpumalanga venue for it’s Provincial Field
Championships is the Olifants River gorge next to Loskop Dam. This is
always a well-attended event as it provides exciting challenges for the
archers due to the mountainous and rocky terrain and is a beautiful area
for families to spend a week-end away.
Henry Devine and Henning Benade did a great job at
getting the range ready and the weather was exceptionally kind, resulting
in a most enjoyable week-end with many archers achieving their qualifying
scores in preparation for the World Championships in Namibia next year.
Henry had invited me to come along and help with the
administration of the event and I was delighted to comply. We got
registration going bright and early on Saturday morning and without much
ado, the grouping was done and the archers took off to their starting
positions and waited for the hooter to commence shooting.
All went well throughout the week-end. I walked the
range checking and helping with targets where necessary. It was a tired
but contented bunch handing in their score sheets at the end of the day.
Once the scores were in on Sunday afternoon, I collated
them and awarded the winners’ medals and prizes. With a heavy heart we
had to leave this beautiful place and return to the big city.
