GENERAL EQUIPMENT RULES AND STYLES
6.4.1 Any kind of bow, having 2 flexible limbs, except a bow incorporating a mechanical drawing device.
6.4.2 Optical spotting devices are permitted.
6.4.3 The archer shall support both the mass weight and holding weight of the bow without any assistance from any external aid other than those defined in the relevant styles.
6.4.4 A bow may not shoot an arrow faster than 300 foot per second.
6.5 SHOOTING STYLES
6.5.1 BAREBOW - (BB) - Recurve & Compound
6.5.1.1 Bow, arrows, strings and accessories shall be free from sights, marks, blemishes or laminations which can be used for aiming.
6.5.1.2 An adjustable arrow rest may be used to control the gap between the arrow and face of the bow window.
6.5.1.3 The use of stabilisers, any length and number, shall be permitted.
6.5.1.4 One permanent nocking point only is permitted.
6.5.1.5 No mechanical device will be permitted other than one non adjustable draw check and/or level mounted on the bow, neither of which may extend above the arrow.
6.5.1.6 All arrows shall be identical in length, weight, diameter, fletching, and nocks, without regard to colour, with allowance forwear and tear.
6.5.2 FREESTYLE LIMITED - (FS) - Recurve & Compound
6.5.2.1 Any type of sight is permitted.
6.5.2.2 Release aids are not permitted.
6.5.3 FREESTYLE UNLIMITED - (FU)
6.5.3.1 Any type of bow, sight and release aid recognised by SANIFAA is permitted.
6.5.4 BOWHUNTER - (BH) - Recurve & Compound
6.5.4.1 Bow, arrows, string and accessories shall be free from sight marks, blemishes and/or laminations which could be used for aiming. A levelling device is not permitted.
6.5.4.2 No device of any type that may be used for sighting may be used or attached to the archers equipment. No draw check or clicker will be permitted.
6.5.4.3 The bowstring shall be one colour only. A serving of one other colour only may be used.
6.5.4.4 One consistent nocking point only is permitted (the point where the arrow touches the string) and shall be held by one or two indicators.
6.5.4.5 One consistent anchor point only is permitted.
6.5.4.6 An archer shall touch the arrow when nocked with the index finger against the nock. Finger position may not be changed during the competition. In cases of physical deformity or handicap special dispensation shall be made.
6.5.4.7 All arrows used shall be identical in length, weight, diameter, fletchings and nocks, without regard for colour, with allowance for wear and tear.
6.5.4.8 Brush buttons in their proper place at the recurve tip of the bow are permitted. String silencers no closer than 12" above or below the nocking point are permitted. A bow quiver installed on the opposite side of the sight window with no part visible in the sight window is permitted. One straight stabiliser, coupling device included (if used), not exceeding 12 inch as measured from the back of the bow, may be used. The plunger (where the stabiliser is screwed in) is part of the stabiliser. No forked stabiliser or any counter balance will be legal.
6.5.4.9 Bow weight may not be adjusted during any one round.
6.5.5 BOWHUNTER LIMITED - (BL)
6.5.5.1 Any type of bow recognised by SANIFAA is permitted.
6.5.5.2 Release aids will not be permitted.
6.5.5.3 A sight with a maximum of 5 fixed reference points, that must not be moved during a round, will be allowed.
12.3.6.1 Pin sights are to be of straight stock from point of anchor to sighting points with only one sighting reference possible from each pin or reference point. Hooded pins or scope sights are not permitted.
12.3.6.2 Bow sight pins known as Glo Pins are deemed legal. The configuration of this sight pin is such that a fiber optic is bowed behind a flat pin that comprises the straight stock, and is totally hidden behind the straight stock until curling to the tip of the straight stock to present the sighting point. The fiber optic bowed behind the straight stock must not be visible to the archer when at full draw. In order for the any sights with fiber optics to be considered legal, they must conform to the same construction, that is, the pin must be of straight stock and the fiber optic hidden in such a way as to not be visible to the archer when at full draw. Any other configuration requires separate ruling.
6.5.5.4 A kisser button or string peep sight will be permitted but not both.
6.5.5.5 Pin Guards/brush guards may be used provided that the distance between the bottom of the top guard and the top pin must be greater than the distance between the top pin and the next highest pin. The same clearance as for the top sight pin applies also to the bottom pin and the bottom guard.
6.5.5.6 All other rules for the BOWHUNTER style will apply.
6.5.6 BOWHUNTER UNLIMITED - (BU)
6.5.6.1 Same rules apply as for BOWHUNTER Limited except that release aids are permitted.
6.5.7 LONGBOW - LB
6.5.7.1 A one piece straight ended bow of any material, which when strung displays one continued unidirectional curve, which is measured as follows:
6.5.7.2 When the strung bow is placed with the bowstring in a vertical position, the angle as measured between the tangent of any point on the limb and an imaginary horizontal line must always decrease as this point is moved further away from the bow grip.
6.5.7.3 Tip reinforcing not exceeding ½" in height, as measured from the surface of the bow limb and not exceeding 1½" in length as measured from the limb tip will be permitted.
6.5.7.4 The belly must be free of any marks or blemishes that can be used as sighting aids.
6.5.7.5 The bow may contain a window and an arrow shelf.
6.5.7.6 Only one nocking point only is allowed on the string, which may be marked by one or two nocking point locators.
6.5.7.7 Arrows must be of wood, fletched with natural feather, and must be of the same length, fletch and pile, without regard for colour.
6.5.7.8 Nocks may be of any material; any weight of pile may be used.
6.5.7.9 The bow must be shot with the "Mediterranean" loose.
6.5.7.10 One consistent anchor point must be used
6.5.8 The STANDARD BOW (STD) Equipment is defined as follows:
6.5.8.1 The Bow shall be of a simple design, wooden either take‑apart or of one‑piece construction.
6.5.8.2 The bowstring may not be of higher specification than Dacron.
6..5.8.3 The arrow rest shall be of a simple, flexible or rigid design and it shall be non‑adjustable. A simple non‑adjustable pressure point may be used but shall be placed no further back than 2 cm from the throat (pivot point) of the handle.
6.5.8.4 One simple draw check indicator, audible or visual may be used. Such a device shall give one indication only of draw length.
6.5.8.5 The bowsight shall be of simple construction and must not include any vertical rack and pinion or screw type of micro adjustment. Lateral (windage) adjustment may be screw adjustable. The sight and any attachment to which it is fixed must comply with the note below.
6.5.8.6 Any stabilisation used must comply with the note below. Torque Flight Compensators (TFC's) may not be used.
6.5.8.7 Arrows shall not exceed a specification of fibreglass, aluminium or equivalent, shall be of equivalent price range and performance. The nocks shall be of simple construction. The points shall be conical or ogival in shape the vanes shall be of a soft plastic material or of natural feathers.
6.5.8.8 Finger protectors shall not include any form of stiffening or locating platform or similar device.
6.5.8.9 The unbraced bow complete with permitted accessories must be capable of passing through a hole or ring of 122 mm inside diameter + 0.5 mm. |
