SANIFAA - BOWHUNTER ROUND RULES
14.1. DURATION.
The BOWHUNTER tournaments will be held on one day except for the National Championships which will be on two (2) consecutive days.
14.2. FORMAT.
The Standard NIFAA Bowhunter round will consist of 28 Targets;- that is, a 14 x 2D Paper Target Unit and 14 x 3D Target Unit, except for the National Championships which will be 28 x 3D and 28 x 2D targets on the two respective days.
The National Championship round may (due to limited availability of 3D targets or 2 D butts) consist of twice the 14 target unit, provided the distances and positions are significantly changed after all competitors have shot the Unit once and before the Unit is shot for the second time.
Range adjustments and changes may only be made by persons officially appointed for this task who may not gain by knowing the changes or distances.
All Bowhunter rounds will be UNMARKED distance events.
14.3. SPECIFIC RULES FOR BOWHUNTER ROUNDS.
(All General rules, as set forth in the SANIFAA. Rule book, will apply except where specific rules are set forth herein.)
14.3.1 TARGETS
Paper Targets will be those Association and commercial faces recognised by SANIFAA. as follows: Guthrie’s (R.S.A.), Freitag (Ger.), Saunders (USA) and Martin (USA). These targets will have Kill and Wound areas uniform with the provisions of the SANIFAA. animal rounds.
3-D Targets - Targets recognised by the SANIFAA. are: 1. All commercially produced 3-D targets. 2. Self made 3-D targets providing the Kill and Wound areas are clearly defined and are uniform from one target to another of the same size group.
14.3.2 SHOOTING DISTANCE
1. Distance must be Unmarked and Unknown to any competitor. 2. Each target of the range shall have an Indicator Board at the shooting position. This board shall carry the following information: a. Target Number. b. Face Size (Group I, II, III, IV or 3-D).
14.3.3 EQUIPMENT (Shooting equipment to be as defined by the SANIFAA. By-Laws).
1. Arrows must be clearly marked by rings. One ring for the first arrow, two rings for the second arrow and three rings for the third arrow. Arrows are to be shot in ascending order, first arrow first. If an archer accidentally shoots the wrong arrow first, he/she must immediately declare that fact to the Group Captain (Target Captain).
2. Bow quivers are permitted for all divisions if their binding (mounting) system is not visible in the sight window.
3. Field glasses, optical spotting devices such as scopes, range finders, and other optical aids, are not permitted.
Cameras may not be used as range finders and may be used (as a camera to take pictures) only after all archers in the group have finished shooting the target.
4. Change of equipment during tournament:
a. Changing an equipment part involving a style (division) change or for the purpose of making the shoot easier in one or another of the different rounds, shall not be permitted.
b. An archer must compete in the tournament with the same equipment he/she starts with except in the case of equipment failure.
c. Bow weight shall not be adjusted during any one round of the tournament.
d. Sight pins shall not be moved during any one round of the tournament.
14.3.4 MISC. SHOOTING RULES
1. No competitor, or any other person not officially associated with the tournament, will be allowed to survey or inspect the Bowhunter courses prior to shooting.
2. No person may accompany the groups on the ranges who is not a competitor assigned to that group (No guests). Cub Minders are excepted. The organisers may authorise person on the range such as officials and media.
3. Relating distances to another archer is strictly forbidden and will result in disqualification.
4. No member of the group (or another group) may go forward of any shooting stake until all members of the group have shot their arrows at that stake.
5. Within the shooting groups the first two archers shall shoot first on the 1st target, the next two archers will shoot first on the next target and so on through the round. These numbers may require modification depending on the total of archers in a group and the number who can shoot at one time at a given target.
6. No archers shall shoot from in front of the appropriate marker. One foot shall touch, or be not more than six inches behind or to either side of such marker.
14.3.5 SCORING
1. The arrow must cut through the line, touching the scoring area, to be counted.
2. On 3-D targets, the arrows sticking in the target stand, base, horn or antler are not counted.
3. Each Target shall have two shooting positions (walkup) not less that 3 yards appart.
4. Both Arrows shall be scored: Bull/Kill 10 and Wound 8
14.3.6 COURSE LAY-OUT REQUIREMENTS
In laying out or setting up a Bowhunter course the following points must be followed:
1. Distances used shall be those designated for the individual target and round and or portion of the round being used.
2. All target butts must be stable with no danger of tipping
3. Any competitor, regardless of height, must have a clear view of the target. When constructing a CUB only range, take into consideration the reduced heights of the competitors.
4. Target lanes, areas, etc., are not required to be maintained at the same level of a Field Course. IE: targets may be placed in a reasonably representative are of natural growth. The target must not be purposely obscured from view. While realising some hunters will take a more difficult shot, the organiser must not accept that as a norm. We are presenting representative and competitive rounds, not constructing an obstacle course or a test of acrobatic skills. Some degree of difficulty is permissible, tempered with a balance of consideration for the average and the non-hunting archer. All archers must have a clear view of the target. |
